Getting a new laptop is exciting and when it arrives you just want to dive straight in and get down to testing it out. But when you switch it on for the first time there's always a lengthy set-up process and updates to install, which can be quite time consuming and tricky for those unexperienced.
We've got the perfect solution, our essential set up service and 10 point system check. It'll save you time and give you peace of mind that everything has been done right, so you can get straight down to enjoying your new laptop.
There's nothing more disappointing than finding a fault straight out of the box, so we double check your new laptop is in perfect working order and even check for dead pixels on the screen (which aren't usually covered under the standard manufacturer warranty). If we find either, we'll swap the laptop for a new one and start the 10 point inspection again. We can also install any hardware you purchase alongside your laptop, like a printer.
When you add a new laptop to basket, you'll find this service listed below it, just tick to add it to your order
We'll then pick your purchased laptop and take it straight to our special testing area.
The guys in the tech team will then carry out the 10 point laptop inspection, they've been inspecting laptops for over 10 years now, so rest assured your laptop is in good hands.
We'll install all updates and any hardware drivers you may have also included in your order.
Your laptop will then be packaged up securely and sent off to you, ready to go as soon as you open it!
Start up & critical updatesWe'll take your laptop through the initial set-up process that hits you as soon as you switch on a new laptop. All critical drivers and updates will be installed too.
Display checkWe put the laptop through a full display check to guarantee there are no dead or permanently lit pixels. This is important as once you see one they're hard to ignore! And the manufacturer of your laptop won't consider this a fault or a reason for return.
Hardware installIf you've ordered any hardware alongside your laptop, such as a printer, well install this for you, so it's ready to go straight out of the box.
Audio checkWell put the speakers through their paces with a few different forms of audio playback to ensure they're in full working order and crystal clear.
Keyboard & touchpad checkEach key is inspected to make sure they are all working and that none are lose or sticking. We'll also double check the touchpad for double tapping and button clicks.
Battery testingWe'll make sure that whilst the laptops running there's no unusual drop in charge and that it also charges up as it should. We then charge it to 100% so it's all ready to go straight out of the box.
Ports checkWe check all the different ports and connections on the laptop, like USB ports, VGA ports and power connections. Making sure they all work as they should.
ConnectionsWe'll test out the Bluetooth connection and the WiFi connection, by making sure one can be made and then maintained for up to an hour.
Webcam check We do a full visual check, making sure the webcam can establish a clear image and also that the microphone works alongside it.
Question from Nikiboy: Asked on 08/05/2008 I've ordered the predelivery inspection and I believe it's worth it for the peace of mind you get. Even the smallest chance of getting a laptop with a dead or stuck pixel is enough for me to warrant this. I have another lcd screen that has dead pixels/stuck pixels and that really annoys me knowing it is there.I am not getting any other thing installed with the prechecks as I have all the software I need bought before the laptop comes.I'm looking forward to receiving my laptop knowing that the screen will be fine. Thanks Laptops Direct for offering this service. For all those who are put off from buying, you will have this same problem anywhere else you buy a laptop from. There will be a slight chance your screens will have dead/stuck pixels. Of course if you don't want this precheck then it's up-to-you, no one is forcing you to.
Question from Frank: Asked on 15/05/2007 when you install and update software, is it possibly to wipe this and start again?pre-delivery inspection is great to make sure it works, but why not just leave it at that. i dont particularly want people installing stuff on there and configuring it, thats stuff i want to do myself.examine the hardware for me by all means and make sure it works, but i want my laptop delivered to me as it has just left the factory - not had software tampering before i even get it.
